Dear Music Lovers,
I got some kudos for the video tribute I did last week on Titto Larriva that I’d thought we’d do the same with Mexico’s rock band Jaguares, formerly Caifanes. But I must chat a bit about Saul and Jaguares! Jaguares just performed at Stubb’s to a rabid crowd, and have started a tour of the states for the entire fall and in spring will take off to various countries
Their new cd, 45, has gotten alot of attention/criticism from die hard Jaguares fan. Like their live shows, each Jagaures CD is a religious experience for the true believers, which has formed one of the greatest rock star-fan relationships in music. Like Springsteen, Saul’s base is a working class crowd. Yes, these kids you see with slicked up hair, dressed in “Mosh-pit” attire are the same kids that during the day clean our houses, run restaurant kitchens and build our houses, everybody needs to rock out right? So, back to 45, as I said, the criticism is coming from the that fact that Jaguares is delving into new sounds, experimenting, or on the case, streamlining their “mystery rock,” to a more “clean rock,” sound.
Personally, I’m digging the new songs and mature sound. Every fans freaks out when a band takes a new music journey. I included one of their new songs, “El Quimista,” in this week’s playlist, as well as some old school Caifanes/Jaguares songs. Also Dacia and myself got some great back stage interviews with Saul and Alfonso, thanks Marusa for the access!
